Swamped

            Elizabeth Osmond

All I need is a giant Daddy Pig costume
but I would not do something as trivial as
run a marathon in it.
I would seal myself in the hollow space,
peak out through a visor.
At work I would take up more space,
people edging sideways to let me through,
turning to listen to my booming deep voice.
When my daughter is about to dissolve
she will be distracted by the big oaf of Daddy Pig
I will get into my red car open-topped car
drive her away to attend barbeques.
Daddy Pig crashes into
social situations without a care in the world.
I will enjoy that my face is all on one side,
like a cubist painting. I can express my inner
feelings with the merest tweak of an eyebrow
or shape of an eye. I am going to host magic shows,
flip pancakes my own way.
