Inversions (or Homesickness)

            Andrew Dennison

The wrong thing sounds
better sometimes
or makes light the truth

like how, knowing
well enough by now
that Earth circles
the sun, we still say

the sun comes round
the back of the house
in the afternoon.

Andrew Dennison is an architectural assistant and writer from Orkney, Scotland, now living in London. He studied architecture at the University of Dundee, and was commended in the 2024 National Poetry Competition for his poem, ‘Courgettes’.
