Howie Good
Whoever they were that took the woman and the kid, they left the dog. I spoke to him just as I would a person, but he was still a dog. He was 105 in human years. I had to carry him up and down the stairs despite my bad back. He showed his appreciation by going on the floor. There was a scary moment when I got the urge to kick him. It was dusk, the loneliest hour of the day, the parking lot of the condo complex where I lived filling up with massive American-made pickups and SUVs, the latter also the car of choice of death squads all over the world.
Howie Good‘s latest book, Frowny Face (Redhawk Publishing, 2023), is a mix of his prose poems and handmade collages. He co-edits the online journal UnLost, dedicated to found poetry.
