Patient

            Yago Soto

Somewhere in a forest, a glass leaf curls
into its frost. Like someone trying to say

important things underwater. Or a loose hair
learning to swim in a sink.

Selfhood is just another kind of bone
that needs sharpening.

A spider resting on your chin
while you sleep. You can hear

some career deity burning
your resume to stay warm.

By morning, small green shoots are pushing
out of you like gentle prayers.

By noon, sand is streaming out of your mouth.
