The Themes

            Mark Granier

How many times can I praise
sunlight on water, on stone,
tiny or great absences and
the modest elbow room a poem
makes for itself? Sometimes
I wonder if I fell into the wrong
preoccupation, being more
daydreamer than thinker,
a tinkerer of thoughts
slipping their own knots,
a boy halfway up the stairs,
stopped by an odd cloud
in the landing window,
who has long since forgotten
what he was going down for.

Mark Granier‘s poetry has been broadcast on RTE and published in numerous outlets, including And Other Poems, The New Statesman, The Friday Poem, The Poetry Review and the TLS. His fifth collection, Ghostlight: New & Selected Poems, was published by Salmon Poetry in 2017. His sixth collection, Everything You Always Wanted To Know, is forthcoming.
